Bonneville County breaks ground for fair building

Bonneville County broke ground Wednesday for the new Bonneville County Fair Grounds building at 15 E 73 S (immediately south of Sandy Downs).

The 4-H Fair Board recently completed a deal with the city of Idaho Falls exchanging former county fairground properties near the Zoo at Tautphaus Park for city-owned property near Sandy Downs. The county purchased the new property in July 2017 and provided over 30 acres of that property for use by the County Fair Board for a new 4-H facility.

The new site will enable the board to provide up-to-date safety and learning features along with energy efficient buildings.

The building will include handicapped accessible bathrooms, classrooms, an exhibit hall for displaying 4-H projects, an area for style review of sewing projects, and a kitchen facility large enough to hold educational classes. The building will also house the University of Idaho Extension Office, the UI Extension support the 4-H program, Master Gardener program and other community educational programs.
