Tornado touches down in desert

An active weather system rolled through eastern Idaho Thursday afternoon producing at least one tornado and dropping large hail and heavy rain.

A tornado was spotted between 3:30 and 4 p.m. by people west of Tabor in the desert. It’s unknown if there was any damage.

That same thunderstorm rolled through Aberdeen earlier around 3:15. A weather spotter reported a wind gust of 89 miles an hour. Tornado warnings were issued with the storm as it traveled through the desert heading northwest towards the Idaho National Laboratory to Mud Lake and then east to Rexburg and St. Anthony.

Earlier in the day, a funnel cloud was spotted by several people from Idaho Falls to the Teton area. But there was no report of an actual tornado. The severe storm started appearing around Blackfoot and moved up the valley into Idaho Falls, Ririe and into Teton county.

Ping pong size hail was reported in the Ririe area. You can check out the photo gallery. We have had no reports of injuries or damage yet.

55 hundredths fell at the KIFI/KIDK studios between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
