Police: Man drives drunk, beats up teen

An Idaho Falls man was arrested Saturday after police said he nearly crashed into a car, then beat up a teenager.

Idaho Falls police responded to the intersection of Santalema and Atlantic around 8:45 p.m. after receiving several calls of a man, later identified as Kenneth Weibl, 54, beating up a teenager. Witnesses said the two separated prior to police arrival.

Weibl fled to a nearby home, and the teenager went to a local restaurant and called police.

According to the 18-year-old teenager, he was driving when Weibl, who was driving a truck, nearly crashed into him. The teen followed Weibl to the 2300 block of Santalema. When the teen approached Weibl about the near crash, Weibl threatened and then grabbed the teen, police said.

The teen declined to press battery charges.

Weibl was arrested on charges of felony driving under the influence, disturbing the peace and failure to purchase a driver’s license.
