Traffic stop leads to recovery of stolen property

Two people were arrested early Monday on charges of felony possession of stolen property following a traffic stop on Channing Way.

Idaho Falls police officers stopped a 2002 red Honda Accord for a traffic violation around 12:30 a.m. The driver, later identified as Jesse Ryan Hackney, 26, initially provided a false name to police, officers said.

After finding out his true identity, officers discovered Hackney had an outstanding felony probation violation warrant out of Utah and a suspended driver’s license.

Police said Hackney’s passenger, identified as Shante Marie Davaz, 31, also initially provided a false name to police. She was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia.

As police were making their arrests, they found both Davaz and Hackney in possession of several stolen documents, checks, cell phones and a financial transaction card. They were also found in possession of U.S. passports linked to a home burglary in Davis County, Utah.

The pair were booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

A second passenger, identified as 30-year-old Miguel A. Villeda of Idaho Falls, was also booked into the Bonneville County Jail on a probation violation.
