Police: Woman stabs man in chest with steak knife

A Pocatello woman is being held in the Bannock County Jail without bond after police said she stabbed a man in the chest with a steak knife.

Pocatello police were called to Portneuf Medical Center at 5:45 a.m. Monday to find Mike Burnham being treated for a stab wound. Burnham said he received the injury when he was stabbed with a steak knife by 26-year-old Whitney Kristen Smiddy at her apartment on Industrial Lane.

Burnham also told police he and Smiddy were arguing near the hallway area of the building about domestic issues when the attack occurred.

Smiddy was arrested on a charge of domestic-related aggravated battery with traumatic injury with children present.
