Local tourist attraction gets facelift

A local tourist attraction is receiving a much-needed renovation in Bingham County. The Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot hopes the renovations will attract even more tourists to the museum.

Museum Executive Director Tish Dahmen said there arenew interior and exterior features. Dahmen said lava rock placed on the exterior of the museum is being replaced, along with flooring. There will also be a new layout.

“On many of these artifacts, there isn’t the interpretative information that people need to know about that particular artifact and why Bingham County is the potato capital of the world. It is going to be completely different and a lot of this equipment is going to be moved up front. It is very exciting,” said Dahmen.

Dahmen said the museum is also bringing back a local favorite.

“In the future we will have an actual restaurant, because when people come here they want to eat potatoes,” she said.

Next on the museum’s to-do list is the expansion and organization of the gift shop, but the ultimate goal is to attract even more folks to Bingham County.
