Idaho Falls Power saves customers money through energy programs

Now, Idaho Falls Power is getting even “smarter” and making it easier for you to save energy as well.

“Going out and working with the community, working with our customers so that they have the tools necessary to understand how they consume and use electricity,” Idaho Falls Power Assistant Manager Bear Prairie said.

One way Idaho Falls Power does this is through energy efficiency audits.

Last year they completed 124 residential audits.

Here’s some of the things they check to make sure you’re up to energy efficiency standards:
-Density of insulation
-Old windows
-Weather stripping
-Window caulking

Idaho Falls Power is going a step further to help you lower your bill and it’s at the touch of your fingertips.

“It will show you every day what amount of kilowatt hours you use,” Prairie said.

The “My Usage” application shows the high and low temperatures of each day and shows your energy consumption trends.

The app also will send out power outage alerts and has the capability to send out requests from the company to use less power during peak usage times.

While Idaho Falls Power is a business and usually businesses want to make as much money as possible, they say by customers using the app and getting audited it actually saves them quite a bit, because it doesn’t need to invest in building another power plant.

The company will roll out the app next month. Instructions on how to use it will be in Idaho Falls Power April newsletter.
