Mcquilliams to spend at least seven years in prison

A man who accidentally killed his girlfriend on New Year’s Day in Idaho Falls will spend at least seven years in prison.

Kevin Mcquilliams was sentenced Monday to seven years determinate and 10 years indeterminate.

Mcquilliams faced three felony charges — involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and illegal possession of a firearm — in connection with the death of AnnaRae Ponce.

The case against Mcquilliams stemmed from a fight that broke out at a party Jan. 1.

During the fight, Mcquilliams fired a gun, and the bullet struck and killed Ponce. Mcquilliams has said he did not mean to kill her and was devastated.
