Iraq war veteran recieves Purple Heart, eight years later

Iraq war veteran Ryan Parker received both the Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge, eight years after his honorable discharge.

“I’m feeling a lot of different things, I’m feeling pretty relieved, grateful, and honored,” said Ryan Parker.

Although Parker received his award eight years after his discharge, it’s not uncommon for these awards to take time to process.

In the last year the Idaho Army National Guard awarded Purple Heart awards to veterans of both World War II and the Vietnam War.

Several key staff members of the Idaho Army National Guard attended the event as well.
