Dinner at Baker Ranch

A local business is bringing people from all over the world to southeast Idaho. Baker Ranch at Lava Hot Springs has 22-year summer tradition.

“You know if you come here, you’re gonna be surprised,” said co-owner Peggy Baker.

“And we decided we should bring people up here to show them,” said Rex Baker.

If you ever find yourself near Dempsey Creek, you could be as surprised.

“You just feel comfortable. You’re one with nature. You go back refreshed,” said Peggy.

Rex and Peggy have been running the ranch for two decades. Peggy is behind the entire operation, with some help.

“Rex is a pretty good helping hand in the last few years. He’s getting better at all that. He’s okay. I’ll keep him,” said Peggy.

You’ll find a wagon ride with wagons built by the Baker’s themselves, live entertainment, and a home-cooked meal.

“The brownies were good. They were moist,” said guest Ashely Weston.

Fortunately Rex was willing to share his secret barbecue recipe.

“It’s Kansas City Original. KC Original Barbeque Sauce,” said Rex.

“I’ve been told it’s one of the nicest meals in the Lava Hot Springs area, which is quite the compliment,” said Peggy.

It’s not just the food and wagon ride that makes this place so special, it’s the people. The Baker’s host guests from all over the world.

“The Canadians tell me this is like a wonderful restaurant in the pines. The Japanese people have a beautiful time here. So we have people from all over Australia, South America, all the States, Hawaii, and England,” said Peggy.

If you take a wagon ride, you meet Denver and Chester the oldest horses at Baker Ranch. Reservations can be made for every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. For more information call 208-776-5684 or click here.
