Tayt is getting new heart

Tayt Andersen, the Rigby boy who born with a half a heart, and Ellen DeGeneres’ “only boyfriend,” has big news.

“I’m getting a new heart!” he announced in a video posted to Facebook (attached to this story) Tuesday.

Tayt is getting the heart transplant he so desperately needs. The 9-year-old has been on the waiting list for years.

His family got the call Tuesday morning and were immediately on their way to Salt Lake City.

This past year has had a lot of ups and downs for Tayt, as he needed that heart more and more.

One thing that’s gotten him through is watching his “girlfriend,” Ellen, every day.

He came to the attention of the comedienne and talk show host in 2012, after “Ellen” viewers from eastern Idaho and around the world asked her to grant his wish of meeting her. Since then, Tayt and his mom, Chrissy, have appeared on her show more than once, and she has presented them with various gifts to help them through their ordeal.

The community has also stepped up to help Tayt.
