Community rallies to save Bengal paws

The effort to save the paws has already met its initial goal, despite just starting this week.

The Pocatello City Council voted no last week to spending nearly $19,000 to replace some of the Bengal paw prints, which will be covered by future paving projects.

Idaho Central Credit Union CEO Kent Oram reached out to the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce to get donations from businesses.

ISU said it would pay half of the cost.

In only a few days, Oram was able to raise the $9,500 needed for the prints. He plans to create a “paw fund,” to help the city pay for future paw costs.

“There’ll be maintenance along the way and paws might wear out,” said Oram. “We’ve kind of filled the immediate need, (so) what can we do, going forward, to lessen the burden on the city.”
