National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive

The 24th annual National Association Letter Carriers Food Drive was Saturday, and all of the food collected went to your local food bank.

The Idaho Falls Community Food Basket, the Salvation Army, the Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen, and St. Vincent de Paul joined resources to host one of the biggest food drives in Idaho Falls.

Bags of nonperishable food were left by mailboxes and picked up when mail carriers came to drop off mail, then brought back to post offices for the food to be put into distribution trucks.

The food was then sent to the Idaho Falls Community Food Basket warehouse, where it was sorted.

Saturday’s food drive will ramp up the supply needed for summer, especially when schools are out of session and more children need access to food.

All though multiple areas throughout the Gem state are participating in this food drive, the food donated and collected from Idaho Falls, will stay in there.

The Idaho Falls Community Food Basket will tally the amount of food donated, and will be reported later this week.
