‘You grab your tennis shoes and fishing rods and get the hell out’

Partial evacuations are underway in Sublette County as the Cliff Creek Fire reaches 6,700 acres.

The evacuation in Sublette County includes the Cozy Campground and residences, south along Highway 189/191 toward the north area of Bondurant.

A man who had to leave his home behind, George Warren, said it’s not an ideal situation, but it’s part of living in the area.

“You just live with it,” he said. “You grab your tennis shoes and fishing rods and get the hell out.”

The Cliff Creek Fire started on S unday afternoon and was caused by lightning.

There are currently 300 personnel on this fire. It’s a mixture of ground crews and aerial resources. Those impacted said they have confidence in the firefighters.

“Let me tell you something, these firefighters out here, local [and] federal… they, they go to work,” Warren said. “They tell you something, you do it. Don’t question them… Mother Nature’s pretty tough sometimes.”

Community meetings will be held in the coming days.
