Woman in hospital after crashing off of I-15 near Blackfoot

An Idaho Falls woman is in the hospital after her car went into the median and over an embankment between two bridges at the south Blackfoot exit.

Idaho State Police investigated the crash at approximately 8:35 a.m. Friday. Kirsi Wilcox, 20 of Idaho Falls, was driving 2011 Toyota Prius southbound on I-15 near milepost 89, near Blackfoot. Wilcox drove into the median and between two bridges and then vaulted over the embankment. Wilcox landed on US91 below I-15 and rolled, coming to rest on the railroad tracks.

Wilcox was ejected from the vehicle. Wilcox was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Wilcox was transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center.

All lanes of travel were blocked for approximately 1.5 hours.

Editor’s note: The original press release from ISP stated that Wilcox was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. ISP issued an update saying this was not correct and we have updated our story to reflect the change.
