Local law enforcement agencies mourn death of Shelley Police Officer

Update to original story:
Officer Swanson was a Sergeant in the Shelley Police Department and a K-9 Officer. The department actually has 8 officers.

Local law enforcement agencies are mourning the death of a Shelley Police Officer.

In a Facebook post, the Idaho State Fraternal Order of Police said, “It’s with great sadness this morning to report the loss of a brother from the Shelley Police Department overnight. Off. Kent Swanson collapsed on duty while at a disturbance call and was transported by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he died of an apparent heart attack. Off. Swanson was a member of the Idaho Falls Police Department FOP Lodge 6. Shelley is a small but very close community with only 6 police officers, a huge loss for them. Please keep the Swanson family and our brothers and sisters from Shelley PD in your thoughts and prayers.”

We reached out to the Shelley Police Department who confirmed the death but had no other information to release at this time.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
