Construction combine takes place in Idaho Falls

A lot of construction is going on in the Idaho Falls area, but construction crews are short on workers.

The College of Eastern Idaho, Home Depot and the Eastern Idaho Homebuilders Association teamed up to recruit individuals for summertime construction employment.

They are calling it the 1st Annual Construction Combine.

The way it works is very similar to an NFL combine.

Wednesday is the first day of tryouts with a bit of training and Thursday contenders will be drafted into their summer employment.

“It will give more opportunities for more jobs,” Eastern Idaho Home Builders Association Executive Officer Nadene Michaelson said. “The construction industry is lacking workers. We desperately need kids to come into this industry and most of the people here teaching these stations are looking to hire employees.”

As part of the training, contenders will be building sheds that will be donated to local veterans.
