Another Island Park earthquake is not much of a concern

ISLAND PARK, Idaho (KIFI) - There was another earthquake in Island Park this morning, ranking 3.3 magnitude.

Research indicates this is not something to be worried about.

The largest earthquake in the region in 2023 ranked at 3.7.

The United States Geological Survey says in a video that the Yellowstone region saw about 1,600 earthquakes in 2023. About 80 of them were during December.

“This is on the low end of average for the region,” said Yellowstone Volcano Observatory Scientist-in-Charge Mike Poland.

There are typically about 1,500 to 2,500 earthquakes in the Yellowstone region every year. There were over 2,400 earthquakes in 2022 and more than 2,700 in 2021.

USGS also talks about Yellowstone geyser and volcanic activity in its video. You can watch the video here.
