Idaho Falls man faces multiple felony child sexual exploitation charges

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — An Idaho Falls man is facing 10 felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child after investigators say they discovered dozens of sexually explicit images of a 15-year-old girl while searching his phone in connection with a separate investigation.

Casey Scott Haag, 33, was charged Aug. 13 in Bonneville County with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a child involving the alleged possession or access of child sexually exploitative material.

According to a probable cause affidavit, an Idaho Falls police detective was executing a search warrant on Haag’s home and electronic devices as part of an ongoing vandalism and stalking investigation when investigators discovered a hidden folder on Haag’s iPhone.

Investigators say the folder contained images of what appeared to be an underage girl, along with a video allegedly showing Haag and the girl having sexual intercourse.

Court documents say investigators also found Snapchat messages between Haag and a person listed as “Jane.” Police contacted the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office after investigators connected clothing seen in social media images to a softball team in Malad.

The sheriff’s office identified the girl as a 15-year-old from the Malad area, according to the affidavit.

During a forensic interview, the girl told investigators she first met Haag online around December 2024, when she was 14 years old. She said the two developed an online romantic relationship and exchanged nude photographs.

The girl told investigators she and Haag later met in person four times. Court documents allege sexual contact occurred during several of those meetings, including sexual intercourse during one encounter that Haag allegedly recorded.

Investigators later conducted a preliminary forensic examination of Haag’s iPhone and said they found approximately 71 images of the girl in the hidden folder.

The criminal complaint identifies 10 specific files that form the basis for the 10 charges currently filed against Haag.

Each count carries a maximum possible penalty of up to 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine, according to the complaint.

During an interview with investigators, the affidavit says Haag initially claimed the girl was 19. Investigators say he later acknowledged she may have been younger and admitted learning she was 15 about two months after they began talking.

The affidavit alleges Haag continued the relationship after learning her age and admitted to investigators that the two had sexual intercourse.

After discussing the alleged sexual contact, court documents say Haag asked how much prison time he could face and requested an attorney. Investigators then ended the interview.

Haag was arrested and booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26 at 1 p.m.

The probable cause affidavit states additional charges could be filed as investigators continue a full forensic examination of Haag’s seized electronic devices.

The charges against Haag are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
