Fremont County EMS performed dangerous rescue this past weekend

FREMONT COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) - Fremont County Emergency services were called just after 10 a.m. this past Sunday. They received reports of a 52-year-old man who fell off the top of Sawtelle Peak.

When officials got on scene, they knew this was not going to be an easy task. They found the man had fallen over 300 feet below. The weather conditions were wet, cold, and foggy to add to the challenge.

More than 20 people from multiple local agencies created a rope system to save the man. They slowly climbed down the steep terrain to reach him and keep him in stable enough conditions. They proceeded to put him in a basket and slowly bring him upward. Once he reached the top, he was transported via ambulance to a helicopter nearby that could bring him directly to the hospital.

The rescue took around three hours to perform. The man is currently in the ICU and is expected to make a full recovery.
