Police identify man killed in Bonneville County crash

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE 5:20 p.m. The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a 42-year-old Idaho Falls man who died in a car crash Wednesday.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. deputies and Idaho Falls Fire responded to 25th E. just north of 49th N. to a two vehicle injury crash involving a semi-truck and a Dodge Durango.  

Emergency personnel arrived and found the two vehicles had hit head on in the roadway.  

 The driver of the Dodge, 42-year-old George Hansen of Idaho Falls, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by fire personnel.

ansen was driving southbound on 25th E. and appeared to have crossed the center line colliding with the semi-truck driven by 38-year-old Michael Lloyd of Utah.

Hansen was found to be deceased at the scene and Lloyd was checked by Ambulance Personnel on scene and released.  

There were no other occupants in either vehicle and both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

25th E. was shut down in that area for a few hours while Fire personnel extricated Hansen from the vehicle.  

Idaho Falls Police, Idaho State Police, and the Bonneville County Coroner also responded and are assisting with the investigation.

ORIGINAL: One man was killed when a semi-truck and trailer struck an SUV at the intersection of 49th North and 25th East near Idaho Falls around 11:38 a.m. Wednesday.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department said the man was trapped in the SUV and died at the scene.

The road was closed from 49th North to 65th North while emergency workers tried to extricate the man. A hazardous materials team was also dispatched to clean up an oily fluid that was leaking into a canal.

That team cleared the accident scene at 1:11 p.m.

The road will stay closed as law enforcement investigates the crash.
