Cars collide on icy road in South Korea; 1 dead, dozens hurt

KIFI

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Nearly 50 vehicles collided on an icy highway near the South Korean capital, killing one person and injuring dozens. The vehicles skidded and collided in succession Sunday night on the Guri-Pocheon highway entering Pocheon city. Many had damaged fronts or rear-ends and some appeared to have been knocked sideways. Fire department officials said at least three other motorists had serious injuries and at least 29 were treated for light injuries. Snow and icy road conditions caused numerous car crashes over the weekend in South Korea. Freezing temperatures and snowfall are forecast this week, meaning the hazardous conditions will continue.
