Suspect shot in shootout with police
POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE 9:32 p.m.: Pocatello Police Department, Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police and Drug Enforcement Administration officers were involved in a cooperative drug task force investigation.
According to Pocatello Police, around 5:30 p.m. officers were in the area of Bench Road and Pocatello Creek Road attempting to arrest a suspect.
A vehicle chase took place after the suspect fled from the scene.
Shortly after, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot.
The suspect was found a short time later near 1000 Pocatello Creek Road near the Sizzler restaurant.
During the apprehension of the suspect, the suspect and officers started firing at each other.
The suspect was taken to Portneuf Medical Center for treatment as a result of the incident.
No officers were hurt during the shooting.
There were no injuries to persons in the area at the time of this incident.
The Idaho Falls Police Department and members of the Eastern Idaho Critical Incident team were notified and will be conducting the investigation of this incident.
According to the Pocatello Police Department, there were reports of shots fired from at least two different locations.
There are several crime scene locations resulting from this incident.
The Idaho Falls Police Department will release more information as the investigation continues.
ORIGINAL: Pocatello police and Bannock County Sheriff's deputies are at the scene of an officer involved shooting in the parking lot of the Sizzler restaurant on Pocatello Creek Rd.
Investigators say it started with a traffic stop by State Police on Olympus Dr. and the suspect fired shots. He then reportedly ran away. Pursuing officers caught up with him in the restaurant parking lot.
A witness tells us 3 shots were fired there. We are told the victim was alive when taken to the hospital but his condition is unknown.
The Sizzler parking lot is surrounded by police tape while our crews at the scene say investigators are talking to people inside and outside the building.
The road has not been closed.
