ICAN Delivers ‘Broken Heart’ Valentine To Payday Lenders

In local communities and across the state, activists are paying a special Valentine’s visit to payday lenders.

Members of the Idaho Community Action Network spent the holiday delivering “Broken Hearts and Broken Budgets” Valentine’s cards to payday loan companies.

Members of ICAN said Idaho’s laws are among the most lenient in the country when it comes to payday lenders.

ICAN wants the legislature to cap payday loans at $300 and require lenders to pay for debt counseling.

A group in Pocatello gave their cards to 10 loan companies along just one road in the city.

“They are like sharks and it’s sad, but they’re preying on our communities and taking money out of them,? ICAN Board Member Jolen Wolford said.
