Romney The Latest GOP Presidential Candidate To Visit Idaho
Republican presidential candidates are making their way around the country, and this week, throughout the Gem State. Mitt Romney rallied in Boise on Friday afternoon, following Ron Paul in Twin Falls, and Rick Santorum in Coeur d?Alene and Boise earlier this week.
On Friday, a construction warehouse was full of energy and applause for the former Massachusetts governor, no surprise considering Romney?s support from Idaho leaders.
It was also no surprise to see candidates Ron Paul, Rick Santorum and Romney in Idaho with 32 delegates at stake on Super Tuesday.
Romney took the stage at about 2:15 p.m. after an introduction from beaming Gov. C.L. ?Butch? Otter.
Romney may have lost an endorsement in Ohio to Santorum on Friday, but he had the Idaho crowd in the palm of his hand.
Hundreds chanted his name as he shared his own Idaho memories and emphasized his business background.
Romney took a couple jabs at his fellow candidates, but mostly President Obama.
?This president has failed the American people and its time for change,? he said. ?This is gonna be a campaign in part about who can actually be a fiscal conservative, who actually is a deficit hawk, who will stop spending more money than we take in and spending our kids? future. I believe its immoral and bad economics to spend what we don?t have. I will stop the spending in Washington.?
Idaho didn?t see these visits four years ago because the state?s primary wasn?t until May. Romney reminded the crowd that this earlier caucus in just a couple of weeks make Idahoans and their vote that much more relevant.
The Idaho GOP caucuses will be held in counties statewide on March 6 at 7 pm.
