Logan High’s Fines To Tardy Students Criticized
Logan High School’s new policy of fining students between $15 and $45 for being late to class is drawing criticism from some parents.
The policy calls for Logan High administrators to issue “truancy tickets” to students who are in halls during class time without authorization.
The tickets will run $15 for the first violation, $30 for the second and $45 for the third and beyond.
Parent Wendi Hassan told Logan’s Herald Journal that she thinks the policy is “unproductive” because it will make students “skip school altogether rather than risk getting a ticket for being late.”
But Principal Dan Cox defends the policy, saying the school has seen a “dramatic increase” in tardiness this year and students need to be accountable for their choices.
