Public Asked To Pay For Shootout Suspect’s Defense
The family of a man charged with capital murder in the deadly shooting of a police officer has set up a website to help raise money for his defense.
The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports (http://bit.ly/x0BB2L) a post from the family of Matthew David Stewart says they are hoping to raise $70,000 in donations.
The site, helpmatthewstewart.org, says the money will allow attorneys for the 37-year-old Army Veteran, hire expert witnesses, scientists, medical professionals or others to aid in his defense.
Stewart is charged in Ogden’s 2nd District Court with one count of capital murder, seven counts of attempted aggravated murder, and marijuana cultivation for the Jan. 4 shootout during a drug raid at his home.
Weber-Morgan Narcotics Task Force Agent Jared Francom was killed. Five others were injured.
