Hailey Weatherby
Service and leadership are two qualities of many winners of the United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student Award. Those traits are certainly evident in this week’s award recipient, Idaho Falls High School senior, Hailey Weatherby.
Hailey is one of the talented students in the Idaho Falls High School A Cappella choir. Music is a big part of her life.
“Not only do I have like an emotional connection to the songs because of the beautiful words and the wonderful tone that we can make, but it is also wonderful to just be involved in a group of highly committed students who just want to come and make beautiful music together,” Hailey said.
Hailey also enjoys the challenges and opportunities of leadership. She’s president of Girl’s Federation – a club that does at least two service projects a month. It’s a perfect job for her because along with leadership, service is one of Hailey’s passions.
“I really just like making a difference in people’s lives, and it brings me real joy to see other people happy because of something I was able to help them with,” Hailey said.
One of the most rewarding service projects for Hailey has been 10 day missions to an Indian reservation in Montana.
“We have cleaned up rodeo grounds, we built picnic tables for an annex, and created a clothing bank for the people in that area,” Hailey said.
With a 4.188 GPA, Hailey is an outstanding student academically. She needs good grades to fulfill her dream to become a doctor.
“If I’m devoted to my school and devoted to enriching myself through my knowledge then I can make a bigger impact on the world later in my life,” Hailey said.
