Nationwide Phone Scam Claims Local Address
A new get rich quick scam is striking people across the nation.
The “work at home” scam is ripping people off for thousands of dollars, and it is claiming a local address.
Opportunity calls in the form of Franklin Financial Solutions. Their representative tells you that you can make good money by selling and managing credit card terminals and working from home. But first, the rep says you have to spend money to make money.
“Folks are claiming to have sent thousands of dollars to this company and have not received what had been promised,” explained Dale Dixon, of the Better Business Bureau.
Victims willingly hand their credit card numbers over to Franklin Financial in hopes of eventually turning a profit.
According to victims’ reports, after shelling out $195 for a “startup fee,” $24.95 per month to host a website and, in some cases, thousands of dollars for a list of sales leads, Franklin Falls off the map.
“Anybody looking to do business with any company should go through the process of doing the research first and making sure that the business has a good reputation,” Dixon said.
The BBB traced the calls, addresses and complaints all the way to Jackson, Wyoming; a post office box at 125 South King Street, to be exact. When BBB officials tried to contact Franklin Financial at that address, it did not exist.
“It appears the company has set up an address in Jackson Hole to take advantage of favorable tax rates that Wyoming offers,” Dixon said.
Therefore, until Franklin Financial is found and stopped, all the BBB can do is slap them with a big, fat “F” grade.
“We’ve reached out to the company a number of times,” Dixon said. “We’ve asked for responses to the complaints. We haven’t received it yet.”
The Better Business Bureau says that if you can’t find the exact location of a business, it’s best to end your transaction with them.
