Watch For Hazardous Road Conditions
The National Weather Service is urging drivers to be careful.
The agency has issued a winter weather advisory for snow in southeastern Idaho, which means snow is causing difficulties in travel.
Numerous accidents and slide-offs are being reported.
Snow arrived in the area Wednesday morning and will change to a rain and snow mixture during the afternoon. The snowfall will intensify again Wednesday evening as the rain/snow mix changes back to snow. Light snow will continue for most of Thursday and into Thursday night, with light snow showers possible into Friday.
Two to 5 inches of fresh powder are expected over most of the Snake River Plain. The Pocatello area is expected to get 3 to 7 inches by the time the snow lets up Thursday morning.
Winds of 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts will create low visibility. Heavy drifting of snow will lead to road closures. Road conditions are expected to become icy, mainly in areas south of Blackfoot.
Wyoming State Highway 22 between Jackson and the Idaho state line is open both ways now.
The Idaho Transportation Department said U.S. Highway 26 is closed in the Ririe/Swan Valley area (between the 26 business route and Rainy Creek Road) due to reduced visibility and blowing snow. The 26 is also closed between the Idaho state line and Alpline Junction in Wyoming.
Idaho State Highway 32 is closed between Idaho 33 in Tetonia and Idaho 47 near Ashton. Highway 33 is closed between Third Street East in Newdale and 700 North Road near Tetonia. Highway 47 is closed between Ashton and Bear Gulch.
