Plastic Bottle Bombs Ignite Gunshot Scare At ISU

On Tuesday, shortly before 1 a.m., Pocatello police were called to Turner Hall on the Idaho State University campus in Pocatello on reports of shots fired.

Police say all floors were cleared rapidly, and according to Steve Chatterton, the director of public safety, ISU used its emergency notification system to tell students and faculty to take shelter and stay in place until they received the all-clear.

Chatterton says Pocatello, Bannock County, and Idaho State Police responded quickly, and upon further investigation police found residents of the dorms had fashioned at least 5 home-made ?bombs? that were dropped out of the windows. Some detonated, and others did not.

ISU activated its emergency siren and dispatch fielded at least 166 calls in the hour after its activation.

The emergency notification system was used again around 1:30 a.m. alerting the campus to the all clear.

Police say no one was injured in the incident, and they are continuing to investigate who is responsible for the “Drano bombs.”
