Man Being Evaluated After Standoff
A man is undergoing a mental evaluation after police say he threatened to kill his wife, three kids and himself Wednesday night.
Law enforcement officials said shots were fired at Jeremy Andrus? Blackfoot home earlier Wednesday night. Police say the family is OK.
Andrus, 30, left in his truck and drove south of Highway 91. The Bingham County Sheriff?s Office began a high-speed chase.
Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen said police had been on a high-speed chase with a man through Bingham County and into Fort Hall. Police used spikes to stop the car at the intersection of Reservation Road and Hwy 91. The car caught on fire after Andrus continued driving on his rims, Nielsen said.
Andus got out of the burning car, put a gun to his head and threatened to kill himself, Nielsen said. He was sitting on a guard rail on the side of the road, police said, no shots were fired at the standoff — any shots residents heard were as a result of ammunition in the car going off because of the fire.
Andrus is in Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello while medical professionals are evaluating whether he is competent for charges to be brought against him.
