Later Start Times Approved For Jackson High School
Teenagers in Jackson should be able to get an extra hour of sleep next school year.
School trustees voted Wednesday to move back school start times for both the high school and middle school students. The vote was unanimous despite concerns from parents about how the change would affect after-school activities and family dinners.
The Jackson Hole Daily reports that high school students will start 80 minutes later at 8:55. Middle school classes will start at 9 a.m.
The late start is aimed at helping students get more sleep. Research compiled by the Teton County School District No. 1 says teens need about nine hours.
School officials in Riverton are also considering a later start for classes but that proposal is aimed at providing time for teacher training.
