Police Investigating Deadly Car Crash Near Downey

A 74-year-old Downey woman was killed Friday evening in a car crash.

It happened on U.S. Highway 91 at the Lundgren Road intersection.

According to the Idaho State Police, Daniel Babbit, 26, was driving in the northbound lanes with passenger Sharon Lake, 74. Police said Babbit stopped to yield to southbound traffic before making a left-hand turn onto Lundgren Road, when his vehicle was rear-ended by a pickup truck.

The truck was driven by William Hebb, 60, of Idaho Falls.

Emergency crews pronounced Lake dead at the scene. Hebb was taken by ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. Babbit was not injured.

Police said Hebb and Babbit were wearing seat belts, and that Lake was not wearing a seat belt.
