Arlington Cemetery Duplicated At High School
As Memorial Day approaches, folks in Pocatello are preparing the annual Field of Heroes.
Volunteers are spending days creating a scaled-down version of Arlington National Cemetery outside Century High School. Each of the crosses represents an American soldier whose life was lost in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Each cross is placed with precision to create row upon row of straight lines. The volunteers even bring in surveyors to make sure everything lines up.
Those in charge of the Field of Heroes say all this effort is just a way for the local community to show its gratitude.
“We come together with one simple cause, and that is to remember our casualties and their families and to let them know that we don’t forget, we remember,? said Field of Heroes coordinator Melissa Hartman. ?And as long as we’re here, we’ll remember.”
