Stevens-Henager College Holds Open House
The turnout was nothing short of spectacular as Stevens-Henager College opened the doors of its new Idaho Falls campus to the public.
Nestled in the Snake River Landing, it?s been holding classes for about 200 students for the past two months, but now it?s ready for more.
?I think it’s really important to have this campus here,? said Associate Campus Director Felicia Wright. ?We really fill a void that needed covered, I guess. The students here don’t want to have to commute to go to school.?
Stevens-Henager specializes in career-based training, offering degrees in business, healthcare and information technology.
Before the Idaho Falls campus was established, students in eastern Idaho could take classes online, or commute to the nearest campus in Logan, Utah.
It’s a huge step for up-and-comers like the Stouts. Darci and David Stout are both first-year business students who hold down hourly jobs at Sears and Sam?s Club. They want to use their degrees from Stevens-Henager to advance their careers.
“I want to become like a CEO or a manager of like a Sam?s Club or something, where I can help people — give them jobs,” David said.
“I actually help my sister with her catering business, and I’m trying to get it started up here,? Darci said. ?So, I’m going into this so I can better manage it for her.”
Administrators hope the Stouts are only two success stories in the making, of many more to come.
“Everybody here cares so much about the students,? Wright said. ?And it’s really rewarding to see the students go through the programs and then graduate and be successful and accomplish their goals.”
Stevens-Henager Idaho Falls is also offering some free courses, mostly focusing on computer skills, as well as a free GED program, as part of the ?Good Neighbor? initiative.
