Horse Rescued After Falling Into Herriman Basement

Rescue crews say they had to dig a trench and build a haul system to remove a horse that fell into a basement in Herriman over the weekend.

Unified Police officials and animal control officers responded to a call about 6:30 p.m. Sunday that a horse was stuck in a basement window well.

But during the rescued attempt, the horse kicked through the window and fell into the basement.

Officials say they weren’t able to lead the horse out up the stairs, so they dug a trench and removed the window frame before tranquilizing him and pulling him out.

The 26-year-old animal had some cuts and scrapes, but is otherwise OK after the three-hour ordeal.
