Man Hurts When Train Hits SUV

Officials in southwestern Idaho say a Michigan man was injured when his sport utility vehicle was struck by a freight train.

Canyon County officials say Steven Lesman had been at a feed lot and was traveling toward the highway at 4 p.m. Tuesday when the train struck the passenger side of his SUV at a crossing east of Parma. Officials don’t know if he was on the tracks before he realized the train was coming or if he was trying to speed through.

Lesman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The SUV ended up on its side next to the train, which had been traveling at about 45 mph.

The railroad crossing is marked with a sign, but does not have lights or gates.
