Cameron Hillam: Distinguished Student
Remember the name, Cameron Hillam. If he pursues the course he plans, he could be a well-known writer or famous politician some day. Cameron is the winner of the weekly United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student Award.
Cameron recently completed a fantasy novel that he plans to get published.
“It makes you feel really great because you have all these ideas swimming in your head, and you finally get to put them on paper to the point where maybe somebody else can enjoy what you enjoy,” Cameron said about being an author.
Cameron is also a talented speaker. He took first place last in the State Oratorical Speech Contest last year.
“I’d say the foundation of the like I have for public speaking is the research that has to go into it,” Cameron said. “In the first place and you have to bring all that information on board to where you sound the smartest and you look the most interesting, and it’s really fun to try to prove that, and a really big adrenaline rush.”
Cameron has a perfect 4.0 GPA. He has a full ride scholarship to BYU, but first he will leave this summer for a two year LDS mission to Calgary, Canada. He plans to be a corporate lawyer and then go into politics. He’s been motivated to be successful in school by something a teacher told him once.
“You need to try your very best to that you don’t have any regrets afterwards, and that’s how I try to maintain my own personal philosophy,” Cameron says. ” As I get older I really don’t want to have to tell my kids that I didn’t really try in high school too hard and that’s why I am where I am.”
So don’t be surprised if you read a best-seller some day by Cameron Hillam – this week’s United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student Award recipient.
