Man passes out after fight with cops

A man passed out after a scuffle with Idaho Falls police Sunday night.

Officers responded to the 400 block of G Street around 9:40 p.m. for a report of a disturbance. While officers spoke with a resident, Ronald R. Mencer Jr., 44, approached the officers.

Police said Mencer attempted to hit the officers with an unidentified object. One officer pushed Mencer away.

Mencer came back at police and began fighting with officers as he kicked and tried to bite them. Officers used a Taser on Mencer multiple times to gain control of the situation. It was ineffective.

Additional officers were called for assistance. Officers were eventually able to detain and cuff Mencer. Mencer had a screwdriver in his hand. A short time after they got him detained, Mencer went unconscious.

Paramedics were called. He was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He regained consciousness.

Warrants were requested for disturbing the peace and resisting an officer.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has been asked by the Idaho Falls Police Department to conduct an investigation into the incident.
