New building possible for Bonneville County elections

The Bonneville County Elections Office is currently in the basement of the courthouse. The county is considering buying a building and moving the whole operation.

The potential new building is at 825 Shoup Ave., across from the Bonneville County Annex. Ron Sayer owns the building and is offering it to the county at a reduced price.

County commissioners are considering the move because the current elections office is so cramped. Every extra storage space is being used and soon the county will have even more to store.

“We used to send a lot of court records over to Boise to store them. They just notified us they are sending about 1,000 boxes of those back. So we have to have a facility for that, so the timing of this worked out real well,” said Roger Christensen, Bonneville County Commission chairman.

The county will take public comment on the possible move this upcoming Tuesday.
