UPDATE: Car crashes into Dept. of Correction building

A driver smashed a car into a building in Pocatello on Sunday, sending several people to the hospital. We have updates on their conditions.

Five people inside were hit, and four were admitted to Portneuf Medical Center. Three of those were 16 years old. Two of them were released from the hospital, but another is in critical condition, PMC said Tuesday. Also in critical condition is a 51-year-old man.

On Monday morning, police identified the driver as Brent Barfuss, 47. Police said he had been charged with driving under the influence, but they later retracted that statement, adding that the investigation is not yet complete.

Barfuss drove his car into the Department of Correction building and smashed into the Riverbend Communications sign out front Sunday around 5:15 p.m., police said.

The car hit five people who were inside at the time. Four were taking a parole-mandated substance abuse class. One man was reported to have been trapped under the car.

The Department of Correction confirmed Monday morning the two people who drove themselves to the hospital were released Sunday night.
