Possible reduction in property taxes

April 15th is the last day to submit applications to your county assessor for a reduction in your property taxes. Those who qualify for Idaho’s Circuit Breaker Program can get those reductions.

The state pays a portion of a homeowner’s property taxes, and recipients don’t repay the state. Bingham County Assessor, Ronald Simmons, said the county has received about 600 applications.

To be eligible, you must be one of the following: 65 or older, a widower, blind or disabled. Cases do vary.

“Also fatherless and motherless children that own property can also qualify. It is a great program because sometimes property taxes can be a burden for those on an extremely limited income,” Simmons said.

If you would like to apply head to your local county assessor’s office.
