Changes in Jackson evacuation

Evacuation policies have been both tightened and relaxed in areas near the unstable hillside in Jackson.

The Budge Drive neighborhood is identified as a high-risk area. As of 7 p.m. Monday, access there will only be allowed for emergency personnel and response teams. Vehicle escorts back to homes in that area will only be allowed for emergency crews.

According to a news release from the Unified Incident Command on Monday morning, the following homes and businesses are still under an evacuation order:

1023, 1030, 1040 and 1045 Budge Drive Hillside apartments (945 W. Broadway) Walgreens apartments (855 W. Broadway) Walgreens Sidewinders Tavern Ignite The Wine Shoppe & Spirits

Also at 7 p.m. Monday, those outside the Budge Drive high-risk area will get access to their homes under a release of liability, which means those returning assume the risk, releasing emergency workers and the Town of Jackson from liability. They must also get permission from private property owners to cross their land. They will only be able to get to their homes by foot.

Residents in the downgraded areas will have limited utilities with no garbage or ambulance service. They are at these addresses on Budge Drive: 955, 980, 982, 984, 986, 988, 990, 1000, 1010 and 1020.

Red Cross opened a shelter at the Exhibit Hall at the fairgrounds on Sunday. The Community Recovery Center will be available at the Teton County Library to 4:00 p.m. Monday.

The hillside is moving 1 or 2 inches a day, said geologists.
