Local a capella group medals at regionals

A local a capella choir hit all the right notes to be a regional medalist this past week. The Idaho Falls A Capella Chorus is a division of Sweet Adeline’s and performed in Colorado Springs the first week of May, where they took home fourth overall and second in the small division.

It’s the group’s first year in a larger, more competitive region, “where you have cities like Denver, Salt Lake area where you have huge choruses of 70 to 80 women,” said director Gary Dunn.

With 16 singers, the Idaho Falls A Capella chorus was one of the smallest groups.

“It’s so unusual for a small chorus like we are to score well enough to even get in the medals,” said Dunn.

With two medals secured, the group will now focus on their fall and winter concert season, before turning attention to next year’s competition.

The chorus is accepting new ladies of all ages. Interested singers can call membership director Jill Bonnell at (208) 680-1888.
