Shoppers get Memorial Day surprise

The Bonneville County Veterans Ceremonial Team ended its Memorial Day with a unique program at the Home Depot in Idaho Falls.

The Veterans Color Guard headed to the Home Depot Monday, after programs at seven ceremonies.

Shoppers took in the bagpipes, 21-gun salute and moment of silence, honoring the soldiers who lost their lives serving the United States.

Retired Navy Capt. Robert Skinner said Home Depot asks the team for a ceremony every year, and they’re happy to take part.

“Some people have no idea we’re coming,” said Skinner. “The Home Depot guy says, ‘Can you shoot the guns inside?’ I said ‘absolutely not, I don’t want people crawling underneath the cement bags and stuff,’ so we did the rifles outside.”

The Bonneville County Veterans Ceremonial Team is made up of American Legion Post 56.
