Blackfoot man sentenced 25 years to life for murder

A Blackfoot man who killed a woman in Bonneville County was sentenced on Thursday morning.

Adan Arroyo, 23, was given 25 years to life in prison by District Judge Jon Shindurling. Arroyo shot to death Kristy Aschliman.

Arroyo pleaded guilty in February to first-degree murder charges. The guilty plea stemmed from a plea agreement with prosecutors to avoid the death penalty. It also waived Arroyo’s rights to an appeal.

Aschliman was found shot four times on east Lincoln Roadon January 19, 2013. In court Thursday members her family expressed the great lost in their lives since her death.

“She was my No. 1 and how can I describe the pain of loosing her to any of you,” said her cousin Melissa Fullmer.

“When Adan took Kristy from us, he took half our heart, my reason for living. I no longer know who I am and I don’t know what happy is anymore,” said Gertraud Aschliman, Kristy’s mother. “Now I spend time looking at the doorway looking for Kristy to walk through and she never will.”

Arroyo said in court Thursday he was sorry for the lost and apologized to the family.
