Driggs woman pleads not guilty to hitting sheriff with car

A Driggs woman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to striking Teton County Sheriff Tony Liford with her car.

Danielle L. Rorabaugh was arraigned before 7th District Judge Greg Moeller on charges of attempting to elude a police officer, injury to a child, aggravated battery, battery on a correctional officer, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in an injury.

Deputy Teton County Prosecutor Chris Lundberg said Rorabaugh will go to trial in October.

The incident happened at a little before 6 p.m June 13, on North Main Street in Driggs.

Deputies said Rorabaugh was driving a white Subaru and hit a pedestrian. She then headed southbound on Highway 33.

Deputies later found the car, but they said she didn’t stop for them either.

At that point, they noticed a child was in the backseat of the car.

Deputies said Sheriff Tony Liford got out his car ordering Rorabaugh to stop. That’s when she allegedly sped up and struck the sheriff.

The driver then returned to the scene of the hit-and-run, stopping on a nearby neighbor’s lawn.

Rorabaugh was taken into custody.

The child wasn’t hurt and was taken into protective custody.
