Idaho Falls woman victim of murder-suicide

An Idaho Falls woman is one of the two victims a Logan, Utah, man killed before he committed suicide, KUTV reports.

In a Monday statement, Logan police said it appeared Jared Tolman, 23, fired multiple times on Mackenzie Madden, 19, and Johnathon Jacob Sadler, 25, after Tolman kicked down the door of a Logan apartment Monday about midnight.

Officers responding to 911 calls found Madden and Johnathon Sadler dead inside the unit about two blocks from campus.

Authorities believe the gunman fled to a west Logan home a few miles away where he had friends. Two people in that apartment called 911 about 1 a.m. to report gunshots.

Police say the same gun was used in all three shootings.

Madden, of Idaho Falls, was a sociology student at Utah State University. Sadler had just graduated from the university with a political science degree.

KUTV said the Tolman and Madden were exchanging text messages earlier in the evening. Police said it’s not clear whether Tolman knew beforehand that Sadler was in Madden’s home.

Logan Police Lt. Rod Peterson said Tolman was an Army National Guardsman. He left a suicide note imparting his belongings to his parents, as well as saying what he was about to do was selfish.
