Reed’s Dairy issues limited milk recall

Test results show some milk sold the week of July 14 at an Idaho Falls store didn’t complete the pasteurization process.

The half-gallons of 1 percent milk were sold at the Reed’s Dairy store front at 2660 W. Broadway.

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture said in a news release the milk did not complete the pasteurization process.

If you bought this milk, officials from Reed’s Dairy and the Idaho State Department of Agriculture ask that you discontinue consumption of the product and return the unused portion to Reed’s Dairy Store for exchange or refund.

Eligible 1 percent milk containers will have the code date “30 JUL” printed near the bottom of the container.

Reed’s Dairy said it doesn’t believe this milk poses a health risk. It has posted the following statement on its Facebook page:

“Hello everyone,

” We were contacted by the Idaho Dept. of Ag today concerning a test that checks to be sure milk is pasteurized. The sample they took of the 1 percent milk did not pass their test. Consequently, they will be sending out a press release in conjunction with us letting the public know what happened. The department says it is standard procedure.

” Please realize our chart (which) … records the te mperature of pasteurization, shows the milk was pasteurized. The milk we ran before the 1 percent was heat-treated to remove any possible bacteria.

” We are confident there is not a health risk. We have contacted almost everyone that has that date, 30 JUL, on their milk bottle.

” Reed’s Dairy has always been open and honest about what goes on here at your local dairy. If you have any questions, please call us. “

The dairy’s phone number is (208) 522-0123.
